POSITION OBJECTIVE/SUMMARYThis position can be located in Holmdel, NJ, or Bethlehem, PA with a flexible work schedule including one day a week remote.The primary objective of the Business Data Steward is to manage the content of the Individual Markets Data Dictionary and Business Glossary, a key foundational component required to support high quality Reporting and Analytics infrastructure. Working as a liaison between the business and IT, the Business Data Steward will be responsible for the collection, documentation and publishing of business terms and their key attributes, including meaning, rules for use, format, source of information and data assets. Within this context, the Business Data Steward will be required to apply and enforce the standards and guidelines as established within the Data Governance framework to drive consistency in data definitions, usage, sources and quality business data. In addition, the Business Data Steward will be accountable for monitoring key Data Management metrics to ensure a high degree and quality is maintained across the data processing processes.POSITION RESPONSIBILITESThe success of this role will depend upon effectively applying business acumen and understanding of the flow of data through various administrative systems from the back end (application tables) to the front end (reporting output) toensure key attributes and data assets associated to business terms are accurately identified. Maintaining the relevance and accuracy of the data dictionary by constantly updating it to reflect changes in business and technology is vital. Ability to build strong partnerships with both business and technical teams, working in the capacity as a liaison between the two is critical in maintaining a viable Data Dictionary.The Business Data Steward will be looked as the resident expert of the IM Data Dictionary and related tool, supporting business users with information (immediate sources, original sources, etc) needed to create and maintain newreports, queries, etc. and informing technology teams of new terms or changes to existing terms so that they can ensure the validity and clarity of data. As a member of the Data Management & Business Intelligence organization, the Business Data Steward will be responsible for ensuring agreed upon standards are followed when defining and sourcing business terms captured in the Data Dictionary. Quality Assurance and Auditing responsibilities will increasingly become a key focus of the Business Data Stewards responsibilities. When necessary, the Business Data Steward will be responsible for facilitating resolution of data integrity issues across stakeholders.Principal Accountabilities:Maintenance of Business Glossary:Work with business partners to collect and accurately document business terms and their key attributes in accordance with agreed upon standards as defined within the Data Governance framework. This will support existing and newdatabases. Overtime these activities are expected to require less time as the glossary matures.Maintenance of Data Dictionary:Utilize appropriate requirement and technical documents to map business terms to IT Assets (data elements, tables and applications). Act as liaison between business and technical teams to ensure alignment.Data Governance:Identify business terms that might have an ambiguous or wrong interpretation and help facilitate the resolution of these data integrity issues. As new databases and new standard reports are rolled out, the candidate will participate in meetings to make sure the proper decisions are made about the sources of data, the meanings of the business terms, and to make sure the various stakeholders follow the data governance processes regarding data dictionary accuracy and update frequency. Over time, these activities are expected to require more time as the governance process matures. QA and Auditing task will become a significant portion of the Data Governance activities.Process and Tool Enhancements:Identify opportunities to drive improvements in processes and tools used to support the Data Dictionary.
