The Network Specialty Educator/Fellowship Coordinator's responsibilities include developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the NICU Nurse Fellowship. In addition, this role includes providing general specialty education contributing to orientation, programs, policies/procedures and professional development across the Network.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES;
  • Provides oversight/serves as point person for the development/facilitation of Network specialty nursing educational programs to which the coordinator is assigned.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates the specialty Network programs aligned with the vision of Network Nursing Executive Committee (NNEC). Fellow experiences should include specialty didactic material, seminars, simulation, and direct care environments.
  • Serves as a member for the Network Nursing Education Leadership Team (NELT).
  • Coordinates clinical orientation and onboarding for all new service line hires. Collaborates with leadership to assess progress and preceptor development. Performs rounds and risk assessments to evaluate current skill level of the clinical staff, develops educational priorities/programs and provides feedback to NNEC.
  • Prepares, promotes, and encourages Network staff for certification in areas of specialty.
  • Leads the development of new programs in their area of specialty and partnering with leadership for compliance with mandatory educational requirements. Makes recommendations on future learning and employment/recruitment opportunities to student groups and community to promote the service line. Participates in the recruitment and retention committee making recommendations on future learning and employment/recruitment opportunities to promote the service line.
  • Manage and evaluate clinical practice performance assuring SLUHN standards and policies are met by current clinical staff. Promote continual learning opportunities as foundational principals for staff development.
  • Demonstrates the expertise in the knowledge of EPIC, Microsoft applications and any additional appropriate software as it related to job responsibilities and problem solve as necessary.
  • Supports the Network Philosophy of Nursing.
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures. Leads and serves on committees as requested or assigned.
  • Participates in activities which promote professional growth and development.
  • Comfortable with presenting and public speaking in large groups. Has strong communication skills both orally and written.
    PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
    Sit up to 7 hours per day; 4 hours at a time. Stand for up to 4 hours per day; 2 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 20 minutes at a time. Frequently use hands and fingers. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 50 lbs. Occasionally stoop and bend. Occasionally reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision. Manual dexterity for typing.
    EDUCATION:
    BSN required, Masters in Nursing preferred . Must achieve MSN within 5 years of accepting position. Relevant teaching experience in area of specialty preferred. Certification preferred on hire and must attain within year one.
    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years clinical experience in the specialty with the ability to work with others in a diplomatic manner and adapts to a changing environment with ease. Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision required.
    WORK SCHEDULE: as scheduled day, evening hours to meet the needs of the department and student clinical rotations.
