Specialist---------------------Please note that this position will
remain open until filled.---------------------Primary Function:
Provides leadership in the creation, design, and application of
innovative technological design, instructional design, and
instructional technology theories and methodologies designed to
help faculty build and facilitate quality projects, programs, and
courses. Works as part of a team to assist credit and non-credit
faculty with the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of
innovation in the classroom across all platforms and modalities.
Works closely with faculty and staff, to ensure their projects,
programs, and courses reflect best practices in course design,
accessibility standards, and copyright policies. Provides training
for faculty in the use of innovative technology, including basic
and advanced uses of the innovative technology for instruction.
Generates, promotes, develops, and assesses new and innovative
educational technological projects, programs, and
courses.Responsibilities: (1) Support college community in the
development and assessment of new innovative projects, programs,
and courses relating to technology and multi-modality platforms;
(2) Manage the NCC Smart apartment including maintenance, tool
development, warranties, replacements, scheduling, promotion, and
assessments. (3) Work closely with the Associate Dean of Online
Learning & Education Technology to design and offer professional
development opportunities to help faculty and staff utilize the NCC
Smart Apartment and other innovation spaces and projects on any
campus governed or maintained by the College; (4) Support OLET and
CMED in the development, design, delivery and assessment of new
technological needs, programs and courses; (5) Work closely with
the Associate Dean of Online Learning and Educational Technology to
design and offer professional development opportunities for the
college community; (6) Work closely with the Associate Dean of
Online Learning and Educational Technology on the creation,
revision, and assessment of online and hybrid courses using Quality
Matters, Online Learning Consortium, and/or SUNY's OSCQR rubrics;
(7) Provide professional development to the college community on
course assessment tools including, but not limited to, rubrics
created by Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium, and/or
OSCQR; (8) Work closely with credit and CMED instructors to build
robust online and hybrid courses utilizing best practices as
defined by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the
Pennsylvania Department of Higher Education, NC-SARA, and the
Faculty Senate at Northampton Community College; (9) Work closely
with the Associate Dean of Online Learning and Educational
Technology to prepare the college community and individual
departments/programs for accreditation visits as relates to online
learning, hybrid learning, and educational technology. (10)
Research and advocate for new educational technologies and trends;
(11) Collaborate with internal and external partners to determine
funding opportunities like grants, sponsorships, etc. for new
programs, technologies, experiments, and events; (12) Hire and
supervise NCC OLET interns working in the Smart Apartment; and be
available on occasional nights and weekends as needed to operate
the Smart Apartment when OLET interns are not available; (14) Be
available to travel to any campus for in-person meetings,
trainings, promotional events, et al, as needed or required; (15)
Perform other responsibilities, as assigned by immediate
supervisor.Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the
Associate Dean of Online Learning and Educational Technology for
performance of assigned responsibilities; (2) Work closely with
faculty and staff in both credit and non-credit capacity; (3)
Relate to College and department goals; (4) Function as an active
member of the College's administrative team.Performance Standards:
Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1)
Mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within a
specified time frame. (2) Responsibilities of the position have
been carried out at a level consistent with performance objectives.
(3) Effective cooperative relationships exist between OLET, ITS and
the college community.Qualifications: (1) Education: Bachelor's
degree in instructional design, educational technology or related
field from a regionally accredited Institution required. Master's
degree in instructional design is preferred. (2) Skills, Knowledge,
Abilities: (a) broad understanding of learning theory,
instructional design models and innovation programming; (b)
familiarity with benchmarking and quality assurance tools like
Quality Matters rubric, Online Learning Consortium rubric, and the
OSCQR rubric; experience in utilizing these tools is preferred; (c)
demonstrated ability to generate and develop innovative ideas; (d)
demonstrated ability to support diverse academic populations across
credit and non-credit boundaries; (e) competent in research,
development, assessment and funding models used to support new
innovation projects, programs, and courses; (f) organizational,
communicative, and leadership skills; (g) demonstrated ability to
oversee student workers. (3) Experience: Professional work
experience as an instructional designer in an educational setting
is strongly preferred. Prior teaching experience within a higher
education setting is desirable. Experience with innovative teaching
and learning is required.
