DESCRIPTION/JOB SUMMARY

Under the authority of the Program Director and the supervision of the Assistant Director and Program Specialists, the MentalHealth Professional and Crisis Worker, hereafter referred to solely as CrisisWorker, assures that all operating procedures and regulations are followed. TheCrisis Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for consumersand staff, and to establish and maintain a therapeutic milieu for the clinicalbenefit of the consumers and those who care for or about the consumers. Thiscare is to be provided while in the residence by providing both supportivecrisis counseling and assistance with negotiating the activities of dailyliving. Crisis Workers gather necessary information, explore presentingproblems, work to alleviate the immediate crisis, and provide linkage toadditional services for on-going treatment. Crisis Workers provide crisiscounseling to adults in the residence who exhibit acute problems of disturbedthought, behavior, mood, or social relationships. All workers are expected to follow allapplicable guidelines regarding confidentiality of consumer information,including the Mental Health Procedure Act, HIPAA, and RHD policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

Consumer Care:

* Spend at least 75% of scheduled time in direct, face-to-face contact during work hours when consumers are awake or if they are unable to sleep during overnight hours.

* Conduct psycho-educational, skills training, and supportive crisis counseling in the residence, in order to assist consumers with improving their abilities to cope with the stresses of daily living.

* Observe all scheduled and as needed (PRN) medication observations (see Med. Obs. Training and Policy) and assist as directed by Residential Nurse; i.e.: blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.

* Complete counting and documenting of controlled substances and ensure that medications are kept locked and accounted for within the parameters of the medical policies and procedures.

* Accurately document all interactions with consumers and/or collaterals in the Hope House Database using DAP format and specific contact times by the end of the scheduled shift.

* Follow any instructions from the previous shift for special consumer needs or contacts.

* Perform insurance verification via the EVS system for all consumers to ensure no change in funding or to update the funding source in the Hope House Database.

* Provide referral and other case management services as assigned and as appropriate.

* Perform clean up and maintenance duties as assigned on the program chore list.

* Identify and resolve light maintenance problems and report lager issues to supervisory staff.

* Exhibit professional behavior treating consumers and co-workers with dignity and respect.

* Assist consumers with Hope House daily activities including, but not limited to, early waking, daily planning, meal preparation and clean up, adherence to the daily program schedule and other areas of daily living.

* Facilitate the residential referral process, medication documentation, intakes, treatment plans, shift and contact notes and accurately document in the Hope House database.

* Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure that all essential daily tasks are completed as directed and in a timely manner.

* Facilitate transportation for consumers to needed appointments within the scope of treatment.

* Attend mandated staff meetings, trainings and individual supervision as scheduled.

* Adhere to Hope House and Corporate Policies and Procedures.

* Report to work as schedule and be ready to perform the duties of the position and to not leave his/her post until properly relieved.

OTHER DUTIES:

* Complete personnel and administrative tasks (time sheets, vacation and change of shift requests, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner.

* Participate in Quality Improvements activities within the scope of the position and/or as assigned by management.

* Keep up certifications current, i.e. CPR/First Aid, Medication Observation, etc.

* Complete a physical exam every two years.

* Consistent use of Universal Precautions when working with potentially hazardous materials/ situations including but not limited to, minor first aid administration, diabetes or other blood testing, room cleaning/ laundry washing, etc.

* Maintain all HIPPA and confidentiality regulations set for the by the Federal, State, and Local Governing bodies, Resources for Human Development and Hope House, RHD.

* Complete a routine Fire Drill monthly on each sift as scheduled and a routine Disaster Drill quarterly as scheduled.

* Perform other duties assigned by the Director or Assistant Director with the general functions of the position.

* Be able to sit for a minimum of two (2) hours during an eight (8) hour shift

* Be able to stand/ walk for a minimum of two (2) hours during an eight (8) hour shift

* Be able to kneel/ squat

* Be able to lift up to 20lbs

* Successfully complete the probationary/getting acquainted period (typically 90 days, but it may be extended if needed)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Have a bachelor s degree with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, politicalscience, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, education or a related field.

Have a high school diploma or equivalency and 12 semester credit hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology; gerontology; orother social science an 2 years of experience in public or private humanservices with one year of mental health direct care experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The MentalHealth Professional or Crisis Worker shall be a person with an interest in andunderstanding of individuals with mental illness and experience working withthis population. He or she will be a mature individual with sound judgment whorepresents an appropriate resource for consumers and collaterals. He or sheshall be flexible enough to respond to crisis situations, work collaborativelyas a team, and take responsibility when decisions have to be made. He or shemust have the ability and experience to make independent decisions whenconsultation with supervisory staff is not possible.

The MentalHealth Professional or Crisis Worker must meet or exceed qualifications for theestablished position as per Pennsylvania State Regulations Title 55 PublicWelfare, Part VII Mental Health Manual, Subpart D. Nonresidential agencies/Facilities/ Services, Chapter 5240 Crisis Intervention Services, Section5240.31 Staff Requirements, most recent revised addition dated 09.15.2014 orthe most recent dated update. The Mental Health Professional or Crisis Workermust have a valid driver s license and reliable means of transportation, andprovide a negative FBI fingerprint, child abuse, and criminal backgroundclearance.
