Lukes Bethlehem Campus, located in Bethlehem, PA is seeking a full-time Restorative Technician to join our Acute Care Rehabilitation team! The Restorative Technician assists the health care team in helping patients to improve their strength, endurance, mobility and discomfort from injury or disease. The Restorative Technician, under supervision and direction of the Mobility Coordinator, Physical Therapist, or Occupational Therapist is accountable for assisting patients in furthering their physical, mental and emotional functioning and performs assignments as delegated. The Restorative Technician will assist in fitting semi-custom orthotic braces with the appropriate training and education, which includes a preferred state accreditation as a licensed Orthotic Fitter. The Restorative Technician may not provide formal assessment of functional status, nor provide discharge recommendations. Level of impairment(s) may only be identified by the primary Physical Therapist and/or primary Occupational Therapist. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position. Pediatric (8 years 12 years) tAdolescent (13-17 years)tAdult (18-65 years) Geriatric (66+ years) JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Functions: - Carries out direct patient care duties including transfers, mobilization/ambulation assistance, and response to call bells. - Assists patient with Activities of Daily Living including bathing, toileting, hygiene and grooming and encourages independence as appropriate. Provide patient with appropriate activities to maximize physical and emotional recovery. - Carries out activities as instructed by Physical and Occupational Therapists. Instructs patients in simple exercise and flexibility programs including non-skilled handling of patients including passive range of motion to the upper and lower extremity at the direction of allied health care practitioners. - Completes timely documentation of patient related information, (i.e. time in/out, ambulatory care, functional mobility). The Restorative Technician may not provide details pertaining to level of assistance required with transfers nor distance or quality of gait completed with ambulation. - Assembles, analyzes and maintains order of all inpatient records in universal chart order per policy, refers to documentation provided by the primary Physical/Occupational Therapist as appropriate. - Maintains unit statistics, manuals and logs as assigned. - Assumes responsibility for maintaining a clean, orderly environment. - Complies with established chain of command for work related problems. - Participates in identifying unit needs and supports unit goals and objectives that contribute to the growth of the Service Line. - Maintains responsibility for own development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs. - Observes and reports changes in the patients health status. - Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. - Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. - Demonstrates/models the Networks Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). Other Functions: - Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. - Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. - Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. - Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated - Assists in development of Q.A. monitors and Q.A. data collection. - Other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: - Must be able to sit for up to ninety minutes at a time. Be able to tolerate standing for thirty to forty-five minutes consecutively. Must be able to use hands/fingers to manipulate dials on machines. Must have the ability to lift/move patients up to 300 lbs., push/pull patients weighing up to 500 lbs. Must have the ability to frequently stoop/bend, squat, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level. Must be capable of tactile sensation as it relates to feeling for muscle spasms, texture and skin temperature. Must have the ability to hear as it relates to normal conversation and ability to hear call bells. Must be capable of seeing as it relates to general vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision. WORK SCHEDULE: - Day/swing shift, 40 hours per week, with varying hours based on the needs of the department. Weekends and Holidays. EDUCATION: - Two year associates degree required, four year bachelors degree preferred. Training and education in orthotic bracing - certification as an orthotic fitter preferred within the first year of employment. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: - One-year clinical experience preferred, especially in an acute care or skilled nursing care environment, current CPR certification. Successful completion of required affiliations and/or CEUs to maintain licensure. Must maintain and complete all Network and departmental educational modules and competencies by deadline date in order to maintain position in good standing.
