The HIV/STD Prevention Nurse will accomplish this goal by serving as the lead nurse in the STD clinic, and by providing resources and expertise to the community via outreach efforts. Nursing skills will also be applied in the clinical setting for education and support. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Serves as the lead nurse for STD clinic, which includes (but is not limited to) assisting the provider with patient appointments, ensuring accurate data entry into Pennsylvania's National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (PA NEDSS), tracking and ordering medications, managing supply inventory, responding to patient inquiries, developing staffing schedule, and assisting management with Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) audits/inquiries and keeping up to date protocols and educational patient materials.Manages all pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) patients (education, queueing labs, scheduling appointments/managing visit frequency)Acts as back-up nurse for infectious disease clinic or primary care.Works with Community Health Educator to help coordinate and attend all community outreach events, which includes HIV/STD testing, awareness, advocacy, and prevention education.Works with Community Health Educator to create regular educational content for social media outreach.Assists with sexual health assessments and follow-up education among HOPE patient population.Oversees HIV testing proficiency/HIV testing backup schedule; stays up to date with PA DOH endorsed HIV testing technology and makes recommendations to Manager.Completes HIV/STD testing invoices for the PA DOH.Coordinates phlebotomy needs, including HIV confirmatory blood draws and training of new staff.Facilitates support group for families of people living with HIV.Assumes personal responsibility to keep informed of changes and trends impacting the HIV community.Develops and maintains current HIV education curriculum to deliver to academic institutions and other community-based organizations.Assures complete data collection and documentation in corresponding databases.Demonstrates efficient time utilization in the home, in the office, and in in the community.Performs skills independently according to agency procedures.Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information, including Act 148.Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Requires sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours at time).-- - Requires continual use of fingers for patient care, writing and computer entry.-- - Routinely uses upper extremities; occasional requirement to lift up to 25 pounds.-- - Occasionally push cart with supplies up to 30 pounds.-- - Occasionally push wheelchair with patient weighing up to 325 pounds.-- - Regularly requires ability to stoop, bend and reach above shoulder level.-- - Requires ability to hear normal conversation and good general, near and peripheral vision.-- - Environmental Conditions:Inside - Office environment Outside - Traveling to community events and/or clinics in extreme cold and heat, wet and/or humid conditions, snow, ice and/or fog HazardsExposure to contagious diseaseroad and driving POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:Employees who work in patient care areas may have potential exposure to patients with infectious diseases. SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:Gloves, gowns, masks, and goggles as needed. MOST COMPLEX DUTY:Serving as lead staff person for STD clinic, which includes assisting providers during patient appointments, responding to patient inquiries, coordinating schedules, ensuring accurate data entry into PA NEDSS, managing medications and supply inventory, managing PrEP patients, and assisting management with PA DOH audits/inquiries and processes/protocols. SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO):Supervised by the HOPE Sexual Health and HIV/STD Prevention Manager. COMMUNICATIONS:Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to patients, families, physicians and related persons.Ability to exercise tact, initiative and good judgment in dealing with people.Communication honors and respects ethnic and cultural diversity. Additional Requirements: Ability to relate to the issues impacting people living with HIV.Comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing theory and ability to apply it to the community health setting.Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, races, sexual orientations, and gender identities or expressions.Strong, active self-care regimen.Ability to instruct professionals in the care and treatment of the physically and emotionally ill.Ability to prepare neat, timely, accurate and concise records and reports.Must have valid transportation. QUALIFICATIONS(MINIMUM)EDUCATION:Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing and possesses a current license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Two years as a professional nurse in nursing practice required.-- - Current CPR certification required. -- -Must be trained or willing to be trained in phlebotomy and lab protocols. Personal experience of supporting people living with HIV strongly preferred.-- - Previous community health or public health experience preferred.
