Position Number:S99180-20190419 Title:Assistant Director for Community Service Department:DOS - Student Life Category:Professional/Managerial Job Family:Student Life Website:https://studentaffairs.lehigh.edu/content/community-service-office Posting Date:04/22/2019 Summary: The Assistant Director for Community Service works in conjunction with the Assistant Dean/Director for Community Service Office providing campus wide community and leadership services and programs, with a primary focus in promoting inclusive leadership at Lehigh University. This person is responsible for program development and implementation; training and advising; assessment and evaluation as well as assisting with long---term vision and planning for the Community Service Office. Accountabilities: Work with the Assistant Dean to coordinate, conduct and establish short and long range planning activities for the Community Service Office Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Students to develop semester and year long office goals Assist with the development of action steps to accomplish office goals in agreement with Departmental goals Assist with the communication about and implementation of the Community Service Office departmental goals Serve as an integral member of the Community Service Office by attending regular staff meetings, assisting with other office initiatives and contributing wherever possible Demonstrate expertise in the Community Service Office Guiding Principles, Five Critical Elements, the Spectrum of Service, and leadership national trends and new knowledge which serves as the foundation for the office programming structure Build relationships with faculty and staff to find mutually beneficial ways to integrate them into the development and delivery of student leadership efforts and to incorporate their students into student leadership programs and initiatives Coordinate leadership and service programs Gain expertise in Lehigh's student life curriculum and other guiding leadership theories, particularly as they relate to inclusive leadership and social justice Conceptualize and aid in the creation of new, innovative leadership and community engagement education programs for students at all developmental levels within a variety of populations and groups Serve as Program Coordinator for the LeaderShape at Lehigh initiative Direct the LeaderShape Day 7 program Plan and implement a variety of leadership and skill building opportunities throughout the year through a community engagement lens Coordinate promotion for, student attendance at, and after experience debriefing for national, regional and local leadership and community service opportunities Facilitate initiatives which recognize community engaged leaders and programs In collaboration with Assistant Dean, integrate, facilitate leadership initiatives for South Bethlehem Community schools Supervise Community Service Office Programs, including but not limited to: Broughal Bowling, Spring Fling, Volunteer Recognition Banquet, etc. Supervision of Ropes Course operations, management, and strategic planning Supervise, train and mentor the lead ropes course facilitator and the ropes course facilitators Coordinate the lead ropes course facilitator and ropes course facilitator selection, training and compensation Organize the tracking, assessment, and on-going evaluation of the participant experience on the course and facilitator development Oversee the paperwork and policies associated with the risk management and participant safety of the course Monitor the operating expenses and revenue generated by the course to ensure a self-supportive small business operation Support the Ropes Course lead facilitator and student staff marketing efforts to recruit future facilitators and groups to the course Work with Assistant Dean on strategic planning for Ropes Course Advise, support and education of meaningful community service and leadership initiatives Coach Community Service Office student staff on leadership theories, MBTI, Clifton Strengths, etc. Develop intentional professional development opportunities for the Community Service Office student staff Train student staff to facilitate workshops, seminars and retreats on various leadership and community engagement topics Implement volunteer best practices training and reflection activities for student organizations and greek student leadership Regularly facilitate service roundtable for community engaged student leaders Serve as a resource to students, faculty and staff about South Bethlehem / Greater Lehigh Valley community needs and ways to lead/serve Supervise Community Service Office student staff Provide trainings, retreats and other learning opportunities for student leaders to be responsible active citizens Assessment and evaluation Evaluate all initiatives using the evaluation processes developed by the Community Service Office; based on evaluation information, make changes to those opportunities as necessary In all programming and training, include mechanisms for measuring all learning outcomes Implement an assessment plan for the Community Service Office student staff that measure student facilitator learning and skill development Conduct research on "promising practices" resources, programmatic materials and new initiatives related to leadership development and community engagement Seek professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge base, areas of expertise and an understanding of theories and practices Serve as an integral member of the larger Dean of Students Office and Student Affairs team Serve on Dean of Students Office committees as needed Collaborate with University administration and other offices to facilitate good interoffice working relationships and partnerships Provide guidance and serve as a resource to faculty and staff related to community service and student leadership development in the general student population Participate in a collateral assignment in another functional area as interested and with the approval of direct supervisor Qualifications: Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related degree One to three years related work experience Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Solid writing ability and organizational skills Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance. Based upon the requirements of the position Lehigh may also request credit history reports, motor vehicle checks and professional license/certification verification Special Considerations: The person in this position will have off the 2nd and 3rd week in December and the 2nd and 3rd week of May annually; working 40 hours per week for 48 weeks out of 52 weeks This position works with minors Periods of high volume/workload may be required for at the beginning and end of each semester Occasional evening, holiday or weekend hours Occasional travel to attend conferences FTE:92.31% Grade and Hiring Minimum:8-40 Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
