Position Number:S83330-20190312 Title:Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Department:DOS - Frat/Soro Category:Professional/Managerial Job Family:Student Life Website:https://studentaffairs.lehigh.edu/content/fraternity-sorority-affairs Posting Date:04/22/2019 Summary: The Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (OFSA) is a 12-month, professional position reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs within the Student Affairs Division. The successful candidate will assist the Director in managing the overall OFSA Department and specifically works with major educational, life safety and chapter evaluation processes critical to the success of our fraternity and sorority community. In addition, this role will manage all major communication efforts including those with students, their families, alumni, national headquarters, etc. Finally, this role will work with all of the alumni, national and campus-based volunteers who assist in the advising of our fraternity and sorority chapters. The Associate Director participates in departmental strategic planning and mission/vision development for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs and represents the department by participating in various Dean of Students initiatives and division-wide committees. Support for professional development opportunities will be provided and professional development is strongly encouraged. Accountabilities: Work with the Assistant Dean to coordinate the activities of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Students to develop semester and year long office goals Assist with the development of action steps to accomplish departmental goals Assist with the distribution and implementation of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs office/departmental goals Serve as an integral member of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs team by attending regular staff meetings, retreats, etc. and assisting the Director in planning and facilitating these meetings as appropriate Build relationships with faculty and staff to find mutually beneficial ways to integrate them into the goals and operations of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Build relationships with staff and students across the fraternity and sorority community to have a broad and deep understanding of community needs and national trends and research that should inform planning efforts for the department Conduct and establish short and long range planning activities of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Provide supervisory oversight for 3 Exempt Staff (Assistant Directors) Oversight of process to hire, supervise, evaluate and train professional, graduate and undergraduate staff who work in the office Coordinate all major educational efforts sponsored by OFSA; including Blueprint initiatives, annual Accreditation process and all other training and development opportunities for Greek students Ensure that chapters receive the necessary training and coaching to be successful in the Accreditation process Select and train panelist from the campus community to assist in the Accreditation evaluation process Oversee the logistical coordination of the Accreditation process including scheduling chapter presentations, assigning panels, managing any needed follow up deliberation conversations, etc. Ensure that chapters' Accreditation efforts and their results are documented and reported effectively Annually work in conjunction with the OFSA Director, Student Affairs Leadership and the System-Wide Assessment Committee to evaluate the effectiveness of the Accreditation process and its outcomes Work with Director of OFSA to prioritize all educational offerings for Greek chapters and students in order to ensure that they meet stated student needs, compliment campus-wide and divisional goals and priorities and incorporate shifting national trends related to the Fraternity and Sorority community Have a deep understanding of the Blueprint framework; train other OFSA staff on the Blueprint model so that they are able to incorporate it effectively into their work, ensure that all new and continuing educational initiatives are directly linked to the 5 Foundations for Student Success and implemented in a way that considers the Blueprint Learning cycle Closely partner with Assistant Directors to support the educational programs they are responsible for implementing and to ensure all of those efforts compliment one another in a curricular fashion and are assessed appropriately to inform future decisions and work. Assist Director with crisis management, chapter discipline issues and manage all proactive and responsive communication efforts with various constituents in and outside of the campus community Oversee all OFSA marketing and communication efforts including but not limited to website, social media, print materials, webinars and in-person training or informational sessions for other units on campus, parents, family and alumni Work closely with Director and University Communications to develop communication protocols as they relate to various OFSA processes and incidents Manage and assist in conducting proactive and follow-up communications with chapters, alumni, parents, families and national headquarters as needed When crisis or chapter discipline issues arise, work closely with the Director of OFSA to oversee our response efforts; this may include on-campus or within chapter emergency response to student or facility issues, assisting with interim suspensions, chapter closings, managing and assisting with chapter investigations Oversee and direct chapter advisor training and development efforts Assess the needs of alumni advisory boards and develop and implement initiatives to support alumni advisors in their role Oversee the recruitment and training of faculty/staff advisors including providing them with ongoing support and resources to be effective in their roles Provide development opportunities for the other OFSA staff to further enhance their advising and coaching skills for working with and providing effective mentoring and feedback to their assigned chapters Assist the Assistant Directors in the advising and coaching of IFC, Panhellenic and MGC councils Support collaborative efforts to manage high-risk drinking initiatives, primarily at the population-level, using evidence-informed environmental management strategies Serve as departmental resource for alcohol related inquiries, programmatic reviews and guidance on new prevention strategies particular population they work with Meet regularly with Director of Health Advancement and Prevention Strategies (HAPSO) to coordinate, plan and assess alcohol intervention efforts specific to students and to provide relevant information to larger campus-wide alcohol conversations Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skill base related to harm reduction and alcohol and drug use Utilize the assessment tools and data provided by HAPSO to inform practices and harm reduction strategies within specific sub-populations of students Assist with accurate and timely health communications efforts regarding alcohol abuse and protective behavioral strategies around high-risk times Collaborate with HAPSO to offer alcohol related educational content for all fraternity and sorority students and organizations Ensure that positional leaders within the fraternity and sorority community receive up to date training related to high-risk drinking and harm reduction Serve as a part of the larger Dean of Students team, participate and/or lead various Dean of Students, Student Affairs and campus-wide committees When asked to serve on various committees, fully participate, attend meetings, keep supervisor updated about your involvement and represent the larger Dean of Students organization, in addition to your department as appropriate Attend and participate in regular staff meetings, professional development opportunities, staff retreats and committee meetings Collaborate effectively with departments across the Dean of Students Office on projects and topics as necessary and as it relates to the Fraternity and Sorority Community Qualifications: Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Student Personnel or related degree required Three to five years related work experience Professional experience and specifically demonstrated progressive experience in working with various aspects of fraternity and sorority affairs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Solid writing ability and organizational skills Solid analytical, decision making and problem solving skills Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, county and national criminal background checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance.
