The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the administrative oversight over a defined management portfolio comprising various campus or network ancillary, support or clinical departments. Accountable to the President of the University Hospital, the Vice President ensures proper management and effective operations to assure top (decile) performance in the financial, quality, service, employee engagement and growth arenas of assigned portfolio. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides the long range strategic plan for assigned departments and services by way of analysis, forecasting trends, anticipating organizational changes, and recommending alternative strategies to ensure state-of-the-art operation. Directs fiscal planning and oversight of responsible Departments under the direction of the President which includes the oversight of revenue projections vs. performance, staffing, operating and capital budgets ensuring fiscal targets are realized. Analyzes and reports on budget variances, assists departments in the development of corrective action plans to ensure unfavorable variances are improved, and monitors and tracks oversight activity to ensure department execution and compliance with corrective action plans. Oversees personnel management functions for the designated areas. Provides necessary leadership to achieve top decile performance in the following areas: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Patient Experience, Employee Engagement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. Develop and foster effective collaboration between departments and other affiliated services to ensure an integrated, network approach to providing services, and fulfilling the organization’s strategic and operational goals and objectives. Serves as university campus administrator for those departments that report through the network structure (i.e., Radiology, Nutritional Services, SPD, etc.) Serves patients by modeling and driving the organization toward patient experience excellence through a patient centered, patient first culture; holds departmental staff accountable for adopting and demonstrating those standards. Maintain effective external relationships such as municipal administrators, legislators, state agencies and corporate representatives. Develop new business strategies to enhance market share and improve overall performance. Manages campus space allocation. Ensures that the standards, codes and requirements set forth by the various accreditation boards and regulatory agencies are met or exceeded. PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting up to 6 hours a day. Standing up to 4 hours a day. Walking up to 4 hours a day. Continually use of fingers and hands to manipulate objects. Lift and carry objects up to 15 lbs. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high/low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, peripheral and depth perception. SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO): Receives general supervision from the President, St. Luke’s University Hospital MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Master’s degree in health care administration, business administration or a closely related field required. If degree is in progress completion must occur within three years of assuming the position. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Work requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in hospital operations or related field including at least 5 years at the administrative leadership level.
