Manage inventory accounting and cost accounting personnel
Develop professional skills of inventory accounting and cost
accounting personnel daily.
Set objectives for the team and communicate priorities daily or as
Resolve employee situations within the department as needed.
Ensure appropriate inventory valuation for B. Braun Medical Inc.
Calculate new standard cost as needed, but at least quarterly and
provide detailed analyses and inventory changes and gross profit
impacts to the VP, Planning & Controlling and the CFO for
Report actual manufacturing spending using the top-down-profit &
loss (TDPL) format and comment on main cost drivers monthly.
Prepare/review manufacturing spending plans using the TDPL format
and comment on main cost drivers in collaboration with plant
Present TDPL findings to the CFO during regular plant review
Analyze PPV and make accounting recommendations to capitalize if
Report B. Braun Medical inventories monthly/weekly/daily as needed
and set targets for inventories based on annual volume budgets.
Calculate annual sales volumes for current year, next year and the
strategic planning period and provide to the appropriate
departments to calculate manufacturing budgets.
Prepare/review inventory accounting work papers supporting general
Prepare/review journal entry data entered into inventory ledger
Maintain/expand expertise over SAP inventory and cost accounting
Support quarterly and year-end reporting quarterly and
Support year-end audit; interact/communicate with outside auditors
Prepare/maintain QPAI base data for federal tax reporting
(preliminary and final) or similarly required analyses for tax
purposes twice per year.
Prepare/maintain internal control policies over inventories and
analyze/refine internal control structure over inventory accounting
and processing monthly.
Receive or understand instructions, request or provide data,
provide work direction within the department daily.
Explain policies and procedures within the department monthly.
Receive or understand instructions, request or provide data monthly
with contractors/consultants (SAP).
Various accounting work papers/analyses reports required by senior
management and outside organizations monthly/quarterly.
Expertise: Knowledge & Skills
Excellent knowledge of accounting processes
Expert knowledge in Excel and ability to process large data
Expert knowledge in SAP with regards to material master data, cost
accounting, manufacturing spending, production order variance
settlement and analysis, inventory reporting and material
Excellent communication skills to present financial results
(inventory/plant spending, manufacturing variances, standard cost
developments and targets) to senior management
Strong ability to challenge the status quo and drive changes to
Train employees regarding work procedures weekly.
Assign tasks and act as project leader weekly/monthly.
Interview and select employees annually.
Evaluate employee performance annually.
Recommend or implement discipline as needed.
Recommend compensation and staffing levels annually/quarterly.
Implementation of new procedures to make processes more efficient
(i.e. new costing methods, SAP related inventory,
evaluation/redesign of internal control policies).
Drive central coordination of planning and controlling functions
(i.e. inventory accounting processing) and continuous
evaluation/redesign of department structure with emphasis on cost
minimization, process efficiency and sound internal controls.
Expertise: Qualifications - Experience/Training/Education/Etc
Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred) or Finance
Minimum of 8 years' experience in cost accounting or general
accounting of a manufacturing company.
Strong problem solving skills
High level of proficiency in the use of SAP
Additional accounting classes, MBA or CPA
APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP or both)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
