Research Engineer

Company: IPVM
Location: Bethlehem
Posted on: August 7, 2022

Job Description:

Does cutting edge technology excite you? Do you like to learn? If yes, then this is the perfect opportunity for you.
Most tech jobs (IT, integrators, consultants) limit employees to a few technologies or products. While you can become good at them, you won't learn about others and are often stuck with dated technology.
At IPVM, the world's leading video surveillance research firm, we test and research cutting edge technology to understand what really works and what does not. We are hiring a Research Engineer to join our team to execute this.
In this role, you will be able to make an immediate impact contributing to IPVM's world-leading research, testing, and education. This is a special opportunity for someone who wants to learn broadly and advance their career. At IPVM you will be hands-on with AI / Deep learning, cloud computing, mobile computing, LiDAR, cybersecurity and other major tech areas.
If you are looking for something more intellectually stimulating than working in IT, consulting, or integration, then IPVM is for you.
You will spend your days planning and conducting video surveillance product tests at our Bethlehem, PA office as well as contributing to the writing of IPVM member reports. This is a dynamic position with considerable upward potential.
There are 2 key requirements for this position:

  • Technology: While a background in video surveillance is not required for this role, you will need to have fundamental education in technology (e.g., computer science or engineering courses, artificial intelligence, software development, robotics experience, etc.). The research that we do focuses on technology, so you must be able to understand, assess, and debunk technological claims.
  • Academic Achievements: IPVM's work requires academic rigor. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a track record of strong academic performance. Examples include: a high college GPA, academic awards, exceptional standardized test scores (95% percentile), etc.
If you are passionate about learning and improving, both personally and professionally, then IPVM is the company for you. As part of the onboarding process, you will be implemented into IPVM's internal training and development program to develop your skill set and to learn more about the video surveillance industry. As you continue to get settled within the company, you will be tasked with more challenging tasks and projects. -
This role is based in IPVM's Bethlehem, PA research facility and we are looking for someone who is willing to work either in-person or hybrid. As a company, IPVM is in favor of remote work, but since there is a big testing/physical component of this job, you must be willing to go into the office at least 3 days a week. If you are relocating for this position, we will pay a relocation bonus. -
At IPVM, you will work alongside some of the best and brightest in the industry (including alumni from Columbia, Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, UPenn, West Point, NYU, and more) and join us in the fight for ethical use of video surveillance.
