Provide "Athletic Training Services" to patients under the direction of a team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with State Athletic Training Practice Act and Athletic Training Standard of Practice. Serve as the Lead Athletic Trainer and/mentor to Athletic Trainers, Resident Athletic Trainers, and students working within the Sports Medicine Program. Assume the primary responsibility for managing, marketing and promoting the Network's Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Care Programs at their primary and associated assignments. Meets the professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards to make decisions based on established guidelines.The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.Athletic Training Services, Relationships, and Strategic Plan1. Ensure that athletic training services are provided in a timely, accurate, effective, and cost-efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures and practices.2. Maintain and be a knowledgeable resource of current and proposed standards of practice and State guidelines of Athletic Training services.3. Collaborate with Sports Medicine Relationships personnel to ensure appropriate staffing models for primary sites, pre-participation physicals, and special events in accordance with partner agreements.4. Assist in ensuring alignment of Network and Department goals and consistent processes and procedures among network Athletic Trainers.5. Responsible for the primary oversight and administration of the athletic training contract at their primary and/or regional assignment (school districts, colleges and/or sport organizations).6. Provide coaches and athletic directors with a list of student-athletes medically eligible to participate under district and state rules and regulations at their site.7. Assist the attending or consulting physician on any related medical management of the patient that fall under the athletic trainer's scope of practice.Network and Community Collaboration8. Collaborate with program and community officials and develop educational programming to meet partner needs, ensure quality and effectiveness, and provide appropriate documentation.9. Under the direction of the Senior Director, Program Managers, and Coordinators, work with SLUHN Marketing Department to market and promote the program and provide on-site marketing related to St. Luke's Sports Medicine services.10. Act as the primary liaison and point of contact between Network entities (i.e. Physicians, Sports Performance, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, etc), other healthcare professionals (i.e. EMS, school nurse, etc), the school district (i.e. Principal, athletic director, guidance counselor, etc), athletes and their parents as it relates to the program assignment.Program Evaluation11. Assist the Program Manager(s) and Coordinator(s) in evaluating program effectiveness and provide any program updates in a timely manner including but not limited to collection of operational data.12. Provide input to annual performance reviews of assigned staff.13. Assist in implementation and collection of: clinical care/outcomes, customer service improvement, operational data, and safety.Mentorship14. Take responsibility for professional development with the use of various tools (i.e. BOC resources, goal setting, etc).15. Communicate regularly with Athletic Trainers in program and/or region.16. Model appropriate professional behaviors and mentor Lead Athletic Trainers, Athletic Trainers, and students from approved Colleges and Universities working within the Sports Medicine Program.17. Assist staff in creating development goals and provide oversight in collaboration with department leadership in ensuring progression toward established goals.Network Duties and Professional Responsibilities18. Take responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provide St. Luke's University Health Network with the necessary documentation on such requirements. (i.e., BOC Continuing Education reporting and renewal, bi-annual state certification renewal, annual CPR recertification, My E-learning).19. Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network / Entity as well as the proper release of information.20. Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient, and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.21. Demonstrate/model the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).22. Comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.23. Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development, and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.24. Maintain appropriate general treatment orders and operating procedures to be reviewed annually and approved by the designated supervising physician.
